Gelecek Kuşaklar İçin İlham Verici Bir Girişim
Doğadan elde edilen en yüksek ekonomik değere sahip ürünlerden biri olan havyar üretimiyle ülkemizin ve bölgemizin balıkçılık tarihinde önemli bir yeri olan mersin balıklarının dünya üzerinde 27 türü var. Ancak bunların birçoğu ne yazık ki bugün dünya genelinde en fazla tehdit altında olan türler arasında. Uzun ömürlü olmaları ve geç erginliğe erişmeleri, yasa dışı ticaret, nehirler üzerine kurulan barajlar, doğal yaşam ortamlarının bozulması, göç yollarının bölünmesi, hedef dışı avcılık ve benzeri etkenlerle birçok mersin balığı türü artık yok olmanın eşiğinde. Yalnız 200 milyon yıldır denizlerimizde varlığını sürdüren bu balıkların geleceğini değil aynı zamanda insanın gıda güvenliğini de tehlikeye atan bu durum, Türkiye temsilcisi olduğumuz Dünya Doğayı Koruma Vakfı’nın (WWF) yanısıra, Dünya Doğayı Koruma Birliği (IUCN), Dünya Mersinbalıkları Koruma Derneği (WSCS), TRAFFIC gibi uluslararası kuruluşlar tarafından da yakından izleniyor. Bu olumsuz gidişatın önüne geçmek için geliştirilen Küresel Mersin Balıkları Stratejisi, hedef dışı avcılığın önlenmesine, ana habitatlar ve göç yolları ile mersin balığı stoklarının korunmasına, kamuoyunun bilgilendirilerek ve ilgi gruplarının desteklenmesine dikkat çekiyor.
Mersin balıklarının coğrafyamızdaki varlığını sürdürmesi WWF-Türkiye’nin de öncelikli konulardan biri. Ancak bir gerçek var ki, bu ve benzeri küresel sorunlar, artık hiç bir tarafın tek başına üstesinden gelemeyeceği boyutlarda. Bu nedenle uluslararası kuruluşlardan ulusal karar vericilere, bilim dünyasından doğal kaynak kullanan tüm ekonomik sektörlere, sivil toplumdan bireylere varıncaya kadar hepimizin aktif sorumluluk almasını gerektiriyor. Bu bütünsel tablo içerisinde Sayın Güven Genç gibi duyarlı insanların aldığı ve alacağı inisiyatifler ayrı bir anlam taşıyor. ”Samsunlu Balıkçıların Saklı Tarihi 1935-2014”, “Çarşamba’nın Kıymetlisi Mersin Balığı 1905-2016” gibi çalışmalarla somutlaşmış olan bu değerli çabaların gelecek kuşaklar için de esin kaynağı olacağına inanıyorum.
